Love, Life & Leo

Recently I saw that it had been a while since I had posted on the blog, so I thought that I would do a small post on the something that I love and kind of obsess over. I absolutely love reading about horoscopes, though it's only my horoscope that I read or at least compatibility of my horoscope with other signs. I have been compiling a list of my favourite tweets from the LEO @LeoMatch and the TheFiresigns @TheFireSigns (which are Aries, Sagittarius, and of course Leo!) I wanted share my top ten tweets, though I don't remember which ones are from where. These are all from their twitters, I do not own anything.

Leo's  are independent and live life on their own terms.

Leo's are irritated by coming in second place. First place is all they know.

Leo's do love to work but they also love their fun times with close friends and family.

Don't EVER mistake a Leo's kindness for weakness.

Leos are excellent organizers and overseers, often laying the groundwork for new projects

Passions run high, and so does desire. There is a strong will that gives a Leo much staying power

Leo loves travelling and will fully meet the taste

Leos have a great appreciation for love. Once they find someone special, they're not letting them go.

Leo's do love to work but they also love their fun times with close friends and family.

Leo's are free spirits burn bright with passion and drive.

I also though it would be funny to do a post exactly two months from my last one and hopefully there will be some new ones soon!!! In the meantime you can follow me on Twitter (@CarlitaPetita), Instagram (welldressedgypsy) and on Pinterest (Carly Pearl or WDGypsy)

Tale of Two Glitter's

Recently I have been quite intrigued by glitter nail polish ever since I got a manicure recently for an event, which I unfortunately did not remember to take a picture of. So when I was these two nail polishes, I thought it would fun to test out which is better; light or dark?

With most glitter polishes they are just a clear coat with sparkles so it looks better to put a solid colour coat underneath it. The first one I tried out was on the dark side spectrum and I was surprised at how well it turned out. The glitter polish I used is the Kardashian Kolor collection from Nicole by O.P.I called Rainbow in the S-kylie with Essie's Over the Edge. The first set are from my Instagram account but really none of the pictures do justice to what my nails really looked like. I loved how it looked like someone neatly spread confetti onto my nails, I couldn't stop staring at them. I was a little hesitant since I am not the biggest fan of the Kardashian's but this nail polish was so amazing and I would definitely do this manicure again.

The second manicure I tried had more of the bling bling and took a couple days for me to get used to with all it's shine. I tried Set in Stones from Essie's Luxe Effects collection with O.P.I 's Alpine Snow (which is a pure white colour) and I didn't mind the manicure. I usually wear a fair amount of shiny jewellery since I wear basic clothes and just funky accessories so it was a bit much for me. But it would great to do if your going to a nice dinner or fancy event, not so much for everyday.

Butterfly Fly Away

So I promised I would a review of the butterfly nails I had in my previous post and I always try to keep my promises. First of all this I this not a sponsored post I just wanted to give my honest opinion on products that I try and I will always give my honest opinion.

I have actually tried the exact same strips before back in the summer and actually wanted to do a post but didn't bother to do one. First time I did them it was a sticky, chipped, & frustrating mess, and the second time around was slightly better because I knew how to use them.

Still kind of frustrating and I only kept them on for a about two days before I was able to pull them off. Although I do love the pattern, it just isn't worth the time and effort to wear them for such a short time.

Catching Dreams

Some of you may notice there's something a little different about my blog, maybe that it has a new name and layout? In addition to that my whole attitude towards blogging has changed. I am going to just go the flow and not stress out about posting or planning post just let them happen when they happen. The blog's new name actually randomly came to me while I was walking to work, oddly enough. I realized while I do love fancy and pretty things, I am most comfortable in leggings, motorcycle boots, free flowing tops and funky unique jewellery ( rather than expensive stuff). A lot of my style is inspired by bohemian and gypsy like fashion and recently my personality has changed to a more positive outlook and letting go of negativity. I decided let go off a lot of things that were holding me back and making me unhappy. And you know what? So many good things have happened since then like finding a good job (with amazing & fun co-workers) , finally getting out of debt and starting to be more independent from my parents. Enough with the deep stuff, let's get to the fun stuff...

Lipstick: Red Revival by Maybelline New York

Red lipstick is always something that I loved, the retro vixen feeling you get from wearing it. Sometimes I get a little self conscious wearing it because my lips are quite full as it is but I just forgot about and wore it with confidence. That's the best thing you can wear every day... Also I'm wearing one of my favourite rings my aunt and uncle gave me as a present years ago and it did used to be silver. I think it has the word compassion written in Sanskrit, which definitely a good thing to have to remind you of everyday to be compassionate.

Denim Shirt: Gap
Tank Top & Jeggins: Joe Fresh
Necklace: Forever 21
Boots: Madden Girl by Steve Madden ( The Shoe Company)

This outfit was from last week and I thoroughly enjoyed wearing it, especially since it had my all my favourites. My motorcycle/gypsy boots I have had for three years now and never want to get rid of them, even if the insides are fall apart.  I have also had an obsession with dream catchers lately, they seem to have a calming effect on me, I have a gorgeous image on one as my twitter background. I felt so free in dream catchers, butterflies and  gypsy boots. The butterfly nails were actually Sally Hansen Salon Effects nail polish strips, which I will be doing a review of soon, if you have been curious about trying them.

And more exciting news I finally got an I-phone (after much anticipation and planning) from Telus. I got a really good deal thanks to back to school promotions and a gift card from a friend. Funny things about getting the phone was that the sales person who sold me my current phone actually sold me my previous one which was three years ago. My case is from Griffin, is purple which is my favourite colour and has a paisley pattern etched into it. It maybe be hard to see

It's Time For A Change

To the few people who do read and follow my blog, I thank you very dearly and appreciate it. Recently I have been thinking more about the blogging world and how it can be a bit materialistic. I am wondering if I just enjoy reading blogs instead of having one, since I am actually a very private person. I realized that when starting the blog I was trying to portray something I wasn't, influenced by all the blogs I follow. I am going to be doing a whole over haul for the blog, new logo, layout and even name. Fashion is definitely something I have always loved and though about going into for a career but I have recently been considering it more lately. Possibly marketing or web design since I find creating layouts and logos. We'll see what the future holds...

*Nobody's Gonna Get In The Way Of My Shine*

Shoes: Ardene

I am obsessed with these sparkly shoes and the best part about was they were only ten dollars! I have worn them almost every day to work and they are so comfy. I got them from Ardene, which the Canadian version of Claire's but they also sell clothes as well ( I actually got the shoes and leather lookalike leggings for twenty dollars). It's a great place for get trendy stuff for super low prices, it actually has a lot more for your value than Claire's.

I took my sister to the Pancake House for breakfast before work since she is leaving to go back to school. I will be a mess when she leaves because she is my best friend and house will be so much quieter without her. It was great to have her not work for a month so we had some time this summer to hang out, even with my crazy work schedule.

T-shirt: Gap, Jeans: Warehouse One, Necklace: Funky Fleece

Blazer & Bracelet: Forever 21, Purse: Coach, Nail Polish: Tin by Joe Fresh

I still can't believe how time has flown and that the summer is almost over but love autumn so it's not so bad. I did get to go on vacation for a few days, my family and I went to Minneapolis and did way too much shopping. While there we went to an outlet mall and I had the amazing luck of finding a Coach purse for 70% off the original price!!! Then the next day I went to a normal Coach store and spent $60 on a key chain that isn't available in Canada (I love it and don't care if people think I'm nuts for paying that much for a key chain).

Osborne Shopping Fun

If you are a fellow Winnipegger, then you know of this little place called Osborne Village. It was voted Canada's greatest neighbourhood and it is my favourite place to just walk around for hours and hours. Eventually I would love to get an apartment because everything is within walking distance and is about 5-10 minutes from the downtown area (even Osborne to me is our downtown). My sister and I went down there to check out what was in the stores stopping in some of my favourite stores such as Out of the Blue and Hush/Shout.

Out of the Blue

This store is amazing combining vintage with modern and girly, fun pieces. My sister was in heaven being that she is way more girly than I am and pulled some clothes for me to wear. I did  see a dress that I liked (one on the left) and looked so pretty on but the price was a bit more than I wanted to spend. Then I found a really cute shirt (right) but unfortunately it didn't over my bigger than average bust size. I wanted to take a pic of the dressing rooms because they are soooo adorable, it's all like old newspapers and 50's cartoons. I ended buying a shirt that my sister picked out for me, that is black and more on the dressy side. It's great for work, if my workplace had an actual dress code instead jeans and hoodies.

My outfit for our sisterly bonding trip include some of my summer basics such as my old and worn Joe Fresh jean shorts and my flowing vest from Winners. I know that flip-flops aren't normally something you see on a blogger but I have found myself wearing them on my days off. The main reason is that my work forbids them but I can still wear sandals, they just have to have a back or slippy thing.

Flip-flops & Top: Old Navy

Sunnies: Versace (Linden Ridge Eye care)

Shorts: Joe Fresh
Belt: Pure by Alfred Sung
Vest: Winners

Cross Body Bag: Coach
Bracelets: Dreams & Wishes
Nail Polish: Neon Pink & Tin (Joe Fresh)

My photographer for the day, my lil sis
Shirt: Joe Fresh
Shorts: Roxy (Winners)
Purse: Mat & Nat
Glasses: Coach

LOL Moment of the Week

There was a moment this week that made laugh at myself and so I decided to take a page from one of my favourite bloggers Marion Berry Style.I got some new nail polish from Joe Fresh and came up with a cute yet tough manicure, all pink then shiny silver on my middle finger. Then like on the Friday I get to work look down at my hand and almost burst out laughing at my visible tan line. I have been trying a self tanner moisturizer to see if I look any different, which might work if I actually applied it every night. It's been a week since then and it's almost gone by now but this picture still make giggle. Did you have moment during the week that made you smile or just laugh hysterically?

But I have still taken some pictures in my free time that I can share with you.

Nail Polish is Bumbleberry from Joe Fresh

The Best Country Ever

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!!!!!

I love being Canadian, it's the best country to live especially for health care. Unfortunately the company I work most of our clientele is American, so I work today and tomorrow. But I get stat holiday pay so it's not so bad and I get the 4th off. Lately I have been obsessed with manicures with a stripe but had only been successful once before (it can get really messy). I really wanted to try and see how it turned out and it turned out great! I'll show how easy it can be if you are patient and a bit of OCD.

OPI Base Coat, Alpine Snow, Essie Lollipop, Opi Top Coat

I always use a top coat  and base, no matter what. It helps prevent chipping and gives you nail a clean finish. You want to start with the colour you want as the stripe in the middle and then paint around.

So I started with a white colour called Alpine Snow by my favourite nail brand, OPI. You don't have to make a stripe, just paint the whole nail. I decided just to do my big to in white because it's really hard to do stripes on toes and I have tiny ones.

I decided to use another one of my favourite nail polish brands Essie and the colour is called Lollipop. I let my nail dry for about a day and I don't put on a top coat until I finish the manicure. The next step is to put small strips of tape over the nails you wanna paint. I cut a normal piece of tape into four quarters and then try to place them as best you can.

Then comes the annoying part, waiting for the nails to dry and touch ups. I usually wait for 30 minutes to take off the tape and then out comes the perfectionist in me for touch ups. Needless to say it took a while before everything was finished and I was satisfied.

The Final Results

I loved the end results and I felt very patriotic, even in my little cubicle. I even got a someone compliment me on my manicure and then one of the consumers wished me a happy Canada day (the one Canadian one who called today). Hope everyone had a great Canada Day and day off tomorrow (I'll be in my cubicle). Also happy early 4th of July to all my american readers. *Met Ball Fashion Extravaganza*

I realize this post probably should have been done a week or two ago but my new job requires me to stare at a computer everyday. However the night of the Met Ball I stayed up late on Twitter and other websites looking at every single look and pinned almost every single look. Work was a little fuzzy the next morning but it was worth it. So I decided to post some of the trends from the night, along my personal best & worst looks of the night. I would also like to credit Ashley Madekwe's on Twitter (@smashleybell) for live tweeting pics via Just Jared and basically alerting me that the Met Ball was going on. Thank you Ashley and I know you would have had an amazing outfit that would be on my best dressed list if you were at the ball.

Met Ball Trend #1
L-R: Katherine Mcphee in Ellie Sabb, Eva Mendes in Prada, Kristen Bell in Tommy Hilfiger,
Kristen Wiig in Stella McCartney and Ginnfer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier
Orange
Until this year I have absolutely hated orange, mainly because us pale girls have a hard time wearing the colour. But there were quite a few gorgeous orange dresses on the carpet, my favourite being Ginnifer Goodwin. It's bright without being too florescent, has such gorgeous beading and fits in her body like a dream. Monique Lhuillier's dress are always beautiful, feminine and elegant, so five stars. Runner-up would be Kristen Bell in Tommy Hilfiger, also larger due to my girl crush on her since Veronica Mars. Truly though, she looks classic, elegant and sexy. You can't even tell she's a mini like me (she's only 5' 1") The least favourite worst look would have to be Kristen Wiig. The pattern is too big and looks like it would be fuzzy when you touch it.

Met Ball Trend #2
L-R: Solange Knowles in Rachel Roy, Coca Rocha in vintage Givenchy, Karlie Kloss in Jason Wu, Emma Roberts in Escada, and Emily Blunt in Calvin Klein Collection with her cutie pie hubbie.
Brights/Neon
Lots of yellow and hot pink were some of the funnest and best looks of the night, especially the neon yellow. There are in a three way tie for my favourite bright look but Coca Rocha is winning by a sliver. I wanna give her some award for creativity not just because she is wearing vintage, which I love. But she is wearing a vintage Givenchy pantsuit worn by Elizabeth Taylor and I love her half dyed pink hair. She went balls out and she pulls it off. Runner-up would have to be Solange Knowles in Rachel Roy so basic yet quite stunning.  Personally I thought she looked ten times better than her sister, whose dress/overall look I did not like. Anyway her peplum dress is super flattering and she went simple with her accessories, only one bracelet and clutch. Her Afro looks big but it is controlled and her makeup is classic. Don't really have a worst for this one.

Met Ball Trend # 3
L-R: Leslie Bib in Zac Posen, Lea Michelle in DVF, Ivanka Trump in Peter Pilotto, Bee Shaffer Erdem in Prada & Chelsea Handler in Roland Mourlet.
  Navy Blue
One of my favourite colours in general it's always a sophisticated and elegant choice, so it seems fitting for the Met Ball. My favourite look from this trend is oddly enough Chelsea Handler in Roland Mourlet with a cool Judith Leiber bag. I have seen her past fashion choices which make me shake my head because she such a gorgeous woman. But her dress was so stunning with a great neckline, simple yet sparkly accessories and a glow of woman in love. Love!!! Runner-up would have to be Ivanka Trump in Peter Pilotto (a designer I have not heard of) with her awesome new bangs. When you look closer it's a velvet fabric with pinstripes, which may sound like an odd combination but she looks beautiful and has such amazing confidence. She also keeps it simple with her jewellery with a blingy bangle and her bangs.

Met Ball Trend # 4
L-R: Hailee Steinfeld in Miu Miu, Shailene Woodley in Christoper Kane, M.I.A (dress unknown), Tory Burch,
Rashida Jones, and Brooklyn Decker all in Tory Burch, Jessica Biel in Prada, Sarah Jessica Parker in Valentino,
and Victoria Justice in McQ by Alexander McQueen.
Floral/Garden
One of my favourite trends of the night would be floral and garden inspired frocks (love that word). A lot people associate floral with either granny or super girly, which for the most part can be true. But if you look at Victoria Justice's dress it's young & fun but also edgy. My favourite look would have to be Brooklyn Decker in Tory Burch, which is such a gorgeous colour. Such an intricate bodice, just high enough slit and hairstyle that doesn't distract from the dress. Runner-up would have to be Sarah Jessica Parker in Valentino, I know some people may think it's a granny dress but I love it. It's still fitted but not too tight or loose, the cuffs are edgy twist and she has such amazing hair. Love the little bow on the front too.

Met Ball Trend #5
Clockwise from the top: Leighton Meester, Camilla Belle, Jessica Chastain, Mia Waiksowi, Kate Bosworth, Azelia Banks
Amber Valleta, Lana Del Ray and Jessica Alba.
Dark Lips
I usually don't go to crazy with any makeup related but I noticed quite a lot almost gothic lips. Some almost black some closer to red & pink. Some worked with the outfit like Kate Bosworth, Jessica Alba and Camilla Belle. Some were almost there like Mia W, Lana Del Ray and Alezia Banks and there were some that were just were too dark like Leighton Meester, Jessica Chastain and Amber Valetta.

Worst Dressed
Elizabeth Banks in Mary Katrantzou, Kate Upton in Michael Kors, Amber Heard in Zac Posen, Linda Evangelista in Prada, Jamie King in Topshop, Mary-Kate Olsen in The Row.

Let's start off with my personal worst dressed of the night which includes quite a lot of unflattering satin. Elizabeth Banks; lovely actress, great person, and busiest outfit of the night. The dress is like someone just three or four different pieces of other outfits together, it scrambles my mind. The hair also just makes me cringe, it looks it could be indestructible. Next up is Kate Upton who no one really knows or cares about. For someone who is pushing her fifteen minutes of fame for wearing almost nothing on the cover of Sports Illustrated, she apparently forgot her bra... again. This dress is doing nothing for her body and the makeup is too dark for such a shiny dress. And moving on to Amber Heard in the bad bridesmaid's dress. Too much poof and satin combined with too much self tanner with bleached blond hair and red lips. Leslie Bibb had a much better Zac Posen gown (see Navy Blue trend). The next one disappoints me very much, I mean come on Linda Evangelista!!! Canadian Super Model, looks fabulous for her age and she wear that, that...thing. It looks like something a nun might wear to a social gathering with a giant scrunchie on top of her head. The dress is blah & boring, is a bit big and would put anyone to sleep. But then the next outfit will wake you right you right up by it's pure satin shine. I love Jamie King and the dress wouldn't be so awful if it wasn't for the eye burning fabric. Everything else looks nice to me but satin with the little crosses on them just looks so...yuck! However I am very intrigued my her handbag, which looks awesome. Just change the fabric of the dress and maybe remove the necklace. Last but possibly the the worst is Mary-Kate Olsen in her design by The Row. The dress is interesting the say the least and not super out there but when a woman is that petite the dress just overwhelms her. Plus the new bleached till it falls out fair ages at least fifteen years. Who is the worst of the worst? I would have to say....
Linda Evangelista

Best Dressed
Big Images L-R: Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan Atelier, Coca Rocha in vintage Givenchy and Florence Welch in Alexander McQueen.
Small inset clockwise from left: Ashley Greene in Donna Karan Atelier, Chelsea Handler in Roland Mouret, Brit Marling in Valentino Couture, Sarah Jessica Parker in Valentino, Kate Bosworth in Prada & Brooklyn Decker in Tory Burch

Ok so a couple of these people you have already seen but now they are best dressed out of everyone as opposed their trend categories. The big pictures are my top three of the night but let's talk about my other favourites of the night who haven't already been talked about. Ashley Greene looks like a Grecian goddess with her sexy flowing hair and mini train are just angelic. Then Brit Marling, who is someone I hadn't heard of, in a feminine yet sexy vintage looking dress. On closer look there is a lace band top underneath but has a high neckline with sheer layer on the dress making her look ethereal. Lily Collins had a similar look (ironically it is Valentino) but her's seemed a much heavier fabric and was more of a granny dress. Now onto a trend that has been coming back recently, the flapper dress. Kate Bosworth looked like fun and fancy flapper, with dark lips that look sophisticated and sexy. She made a good choice going with a dark lip because her dress would have been too dark with lighter makeup. And I love her subtle bling and clutch that matches her dress. And now for my top three which I am very proud to say there is two Canadians on there. Third place would be Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan Atelier (her gowns were stunners on the carpet) with a fabulous fan train. Slinky and shiny she looks amazing, although I think her hair in a side ponytail would have been amazing. Second place but very close would have to be Florence Welch in a studtastic Alexander McQueen. I literally have no words for this amazing gown with ample cleavage and just the right amount of poof. Love the round braid on top, she is just working it. And finally my personal best would have to be...

Coca Rocha
I know a lot of people probably aren't a fan of this outfit but I fucking love it. She went for vintage, which I love and made it fun and different with the pink hair. But also what makes her my favourite is her balls to wall confidence in this outfit, I mean look at her smile. Confidence, a lot of time is the best accessory because you can have the best outfit but that doesn't mean anything without confidence.

Hope you liked this post and you can also check out the rest of my commentary from 85 - 95% of the outfits from the events on my Pinterest board for the event. http://pinterest.com/bohoclassicrock/met-ball-2012/

Vintage Jewellery Goodies

Sorry about not posting last week, I had a couple pre-written posts but they didn't really seem like something I wanted to put out. This weekend my mother decided to go through her massive jewellery collection and I was able to snatch a bunch of her cast-offs. A good portion of the jewellery was some funky vintage stuff and some more modern accessories. Vintage jewellery has always been a love of mine, I would rather wear something unique than something flashy & expensive. Although my mom did give me some pretty shiny earrings. It was actually also a great bonding experience where I learned about some of her childhood and other stories from her jewellery.
My whole jewellery haul

Bracelets, the costume jewelley bracelt is missing a few stones but stunning.

Brooches, the orange one reminds of that YSL Ring

Earrings are vintage except boxed ones. Love the eightes jewellery

Modern Necklaces and my evident Slurpee addiction. Not sure if I like the silver one yet.

Little charms of me and my sis when we were young.
One for each of us and I am going to make mine into a necklace

Added last because mom had a change of heart.
She loved them but knew I would too. Thanks Mommy!!!
Thought I would also recommend some music that I have been listening to:

Cassie Steele Destructo Doll - Groupie is my fav

Carrie Underwood Blown Away - Two Black Cadillacs, Blown Away, Good in Goodbye & Cupid's Got a Shotgun are standouts

Secondhand Serenade You & I (feat. Cady Groves) - On repeat, so amazing

SHeDAISY Discography - They can do no wrong new favourite country artist

Pancakes, Paradise & Purses

Hope you guys had a great weekend because I did! Even though the pancakes I made were from a mix  very proud of myself for cooking them and adding the extra ingredients. For my mom she loves blueberry pancakes so I decided to try cooking pancakes with them. According to my mom blueberry pancakes are hard to hard to cook right but she was very proud of me because she loved them. For myself I made chocolate chip pancakes and went a little crazy when adding the chocolate chips but they were so good. A tip for adding extra ingredients if aren't adding them to the batter, add them as soon as possible so they will sink into the pancakes a little. I even made a little one for my puppy, he's spoiled little moocher.

Then on Sunday (today) I finally got to see my bestie since she has been super busy with work & school (I don't know how she does it). We went to dinner at this cute little Italian restaurant downtown called Paradise, which had really good pizza. I got a small pepperoni pizza and my friend got fettuccine which mushroom sauce and we both loved our meals.

Old Navy Tank Top & Scarf
Dynamite Blazer
Mark's Work Warehouse Jeans
Winner's Boots
Burberry Glasses
Daddy's Girl Purse
Suzy Shier Earrings
Handmade Cuff from a random jewellery vendor
Hair Elastics (I always wear them)

My bestie since 10th grade, who will probably kill me for putting this picture up, even though she looks gorgeous and stylish.

She also brought me a present!!!! She bought it while on vacation and brought me one back. Is it real? Probably not but I still love it anyway
