Skullicious Nails & How I Do My Manicure

I remember seeing this set a couple years ago online and then I found it at Winners a year ago for ten dollars. Since Halloween is fast approaching  I thought I would play around with some designs, since it does come with nail design stickers. I thought it turned out pretty well, considering I am not using any nail tools, just toothpicks and the brush itself.

Julep Nail file, Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum, and Joe Fresh Buffing Blaock

First of all I start off with filing and buffing my nails, I find it's easier with how fast my nails grow than using nail clippers. My favourite nail file is one I got in a surprise box from Julep, it's even better than their glass new file and then use a buffing block. This one is from from Joe Fresh with two sides and it is only three dollars. Next I use the Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum from Julep, which is a holy grail nail product for me, from a Julep Maven Box from the beginning of the year.  It helps to repair dry and damaged cuticles as well as smooths out any ridges on your nails, which if your pick your nail polish off like some of us do is a godsend.

Next step, hand cream. I like to use a thick moisturizing, where as during the day I would use a light one like Julep's Rockstar Hand creme. I love this one from Fruits and Passions it smells like vanilla and it is made of all natural ingredients and environmentally friendly. It's a Canadian company and it is a great lotion for people with sensitive skin.

OPI Nail Envy, Natural Base Coat, and Rapid Dry Top Coat

If you do your nails several times time a week like I sometimes do, then you definitely want to put a strengthener before you put a base coat on. They have all different types of formulas depending on what you want but I just have the basic one. Just put on two coats and then you can put on a coat a day, if you want keep up with it. Right now the Rapid Dry Top Coat is the only top coat I have but I have used the regular and the designer ones from OPI. It does dry fast which is good for me since I usually do my nails before bed but I do feel like it is not a good top coat if you want to prevent chipping. Julep's Freedom Polymer top coat is my favourite top coat but currently it is sticky and not usable.

L-R: Hi Pumpkin, A-Rose from Death, Morning Glory, Candlelight + Nail Decals

Hi Pumpkin : "This jack-o-latern orange is sweet on you"
A-Rose at Death:" This hot pink is the life of the party"
Morning Glory: " A black so shiny, it will lift your spirits"
Candlelight:  "Be all aglow in this flame yellow"

All of these colours are so vibrant and fun, great for any Halloween party or if you want to have some fun with your nails before. Normally I am not a fan of orange but this a creamy pumpkin colour and I enjoyed wearing it. Most of the colours are opaque with two coats but Candlelight took four coats unfortunately. The colour is a beautiful light golden yellow and it is probably my favourite yellow polish of all time. I love the A-Rose at Death, a true hot pink and Morning Glory, a true black (which a lot of nail polishes aren't). And then some the fun/interesting part.

I wanted to try to keep the nails as balanced as I could without it looking too eccentric. If you prefer to use stripers and dotting tools you can, but as long as you have a steady hand  it should work out. For the stripes I just used the the brush and a careful hand, the dots are a little more tricky. You want to make you have just the right amount of polish so the dots are not too big and that they don't run down on the nail. Super simple, fun, and a mix of edgy and girly.

I hoped you liked this little tutorial and let me know if there are any other nail designs you want to see. Also tell what you are going as for Halloween and what your nails will like like. See you soon lovely little dreamers!

With Love From,

 Carly Pearl
